Audubon leaders Jess Morton and John Nieto lead a nature walk to explore the new Bixby Marshland, a 17-acre property restored by
the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County. Enter on Figueroa Street just south of Sepulveda. For other information, visit www.

CABRILLO NATIVE GARDEN WORKSHOP*
At the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, in San Pedro, there will be a native plant garden workshop from 8 - 10 AM. Projects include
enhancements of the native garden, the salt marsh vegetation and the coastal bluffs. Bring a lunch and enjoy the beach afterwards.

TRAILS MAINTENANCE
The Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council invites you to take part in their weekly trail maintenance work. Each week a different trail
is worked on. For information, general check the web atwww.smmtc.org. Today you are being asked to help with. Call Dave Edwards
805-985-3728 to receive specific information about the trail and meeting place and to answer your questions. PLEASE let the leader
know in advance you are coming so that enough tools will be available and to verify meeting point and time. We plan to end work at
2pm at the trailhead, please tell the leader when you call if you need to leave earlier. Keep in mind we often car pool, shuttle or hike
to the actual work site.
A parent or organization group leader must accompany volunteers under the age of 18. General information: Linda Palmer at 818-
222-4531. If you can’t reach the leader call Burt Elliott at 805-498-2475. BRING: water, lunch, work gloves, long sleeve shirt and eye
protection. Sturdy shoes or boots and long pants are required. The Trails Council will provide tools, but you may bring your own. (2

WEEKLY HABITAT ENHANCEMENT PROJECT
In Torrance, there is an on-going weekly Madrona Marsh habitat restoration project. The Marsh is the last vernal wetland (wet in
winter, dry in summer) in the LA Basin. It hosts a number of rare plants and animals that need your help! Meet at 9 at the north gate
to the marsh--on Plaza Del Amo, just east of Madrona Ave. Please call Mark or Tracy at 782-3989 to say how many in your group will
be coming. (2 credits per hour worked)

In San Pedro, 9 to Noon, habitat restoration and/or native plant nursery work continues for the Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly and other

a beautiful day.

In Rolling Hills estates, at 1 P.M. and 3 P.M., walks hosted by the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy will take you through George F
Canyon, where you will learn about the wildlife and birds along the stream and in the coastal sage scrub habitat of the hillsides.
Meet at the nature center, located at the corner of PV Drive East and PV Drive North, across from the reservoir. (2 YES! credits each)

This is the last vernal marsh in the LA Basin. It is home to a number of rare habitats that attract many hard-to-find species of plants,
birds and other animals. These free walks are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, beginning at 8 A.M. from the gate on

In Rolling Hills Estates, a habitat restoration project is scheduled for the Chandler Preserve, one of our hidden habitat gems. We will
be clearing non-natives from superb habitat in a spectacular setting where the Palos verdes blue butterfly has been recently
reintroduced into the wild.
This project is sponsored by Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Consevancy. The place is hard to find if you have not been to it before.

HABITAT RESTORATION AT HARBOR PARK
Second Saturday Habitat Restoration Project at KMHRP, led by Roderick Go and Lauren Stoneburner,, Martin Byhower, and others.
Clean-up and restoration of this important wildlife area offers a hands-on opportunity to learn about invasive species removal, native
planting, effective trash and debris removal, and much more, while earning community service credit. All ages, but folks under 16
must be accompanied by an adult. Make the Park nicer on Saturday, then come back and enjoy the regular "Second Sunday" nature
walk there the next day!
Meet in the lot near the Anaheim St. entrance, just east of the intersection of Anaheim and Vermont. Wear closed toe shoes, hat and
long pants. Tools and gloves will be available, but if possible, bring water, a snack, work gloves, and maybe sun and bug repellent.

PALOS VERDES PENINSULA REGION
NATURE WALK
Take part in this monthly walk sponsored by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Walk Leaders help you discover the
history of this once-channel island, about the birds, wildlife, and plants that live in the canyons and undeveloped areas, and about
the unique geology of this special Peninsula.
This month's walk is to Lunada Canyon, a west-side canyon being restored by volunteers like you. You can earn 3 YES! by assisting
walk leaders with registration, passing out fliers and doing other tasks. Call 541-7613 for information. (3 YES! credits)

In Wilmington, at Harbor Lake. Meet at 8 for a 2 to 3 hour walk with experts to learn about this incredible natural resource in our own
back yard. You will learn to identify many of the birds, plants and animals. 3 YES! credits will be given for this learning experience.
Binoculars will be available, if you don't have them. Wear shoes which can withstand a bit of water (we may have to wade across the
shallow spill zone on the dam at the south end of the lake). Meet in the parking lot just above the boathouse near the corner of

and there is no charge. Topical slide programs on various natural history subjects.
This month, Please join the Palos Verdes/South Bay Audubon Society for a presentation by Steven Shunk who will tell us about
Inland
Island Woodpeckers. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone welcome! Come and enjoy the program, socialize

WILLOWS WETLANDS PRESERVE RESTORATION
In Gardena, at the Gardena Willows, there will be a Learn the Willows working session, starting at 8 A.M. The Willows is the last
remnant of the once-extensive tidal marshes and sloughs that covered large parts of Carson and Gardena a hundred years ago.
Join your friends and neighbors to clean up the remaining willow/riparian habitat and build a nature center. For information and
